July's Finds

FROZEN DESSERTS
Because it is currently summer and we are all dying of heat (and I am mourning the lack of AC), ice cream is a must! There's some interesting flavors, including a strawberry-raspberry macaron one! There's even gelato sold in a glass cup and little dome ice creams filled with meringues and other delectables called "Mystères".

REFRIGERATED ITEMS
The tourteau fromager is a baked "cheesecake" but not like the ones I'm used to. Rather, it is made primarily with goat cheese and is light and fluffy. I also took a step back into the 50s by trying a gelatin smoked salmon mousse appetizer cone thing that I found at the store. It was surprisingly yummy, despite its appearance and the typical savory-gelatine-dish-evasiveness we see today.

La Vache Qui Rire - aka The Laughing Cow! The French love their apéro time, which is an hour or two set aside right before dinner for drinks and little snacks, like these different flavored cheese cubes. We had garlic and herbs, chorizo, blue cheese with nuts, and goat cheese. The chorizo one was the best, in my opinion. The inside film even has a little game to play, where it will give 2-3 descriptors and the name of a famous person. You tell your friends the descriptors and then they have to guess who it is!
Most of these were famous French people, but we guessed a few of them,
like Leonardo Da Vinci and Walt Disney!

PRODUCE/SHELF STABLE

It's hard to find red-skinned potatoes in France!

More Tex-Mex food kits, bc Mexican food is not the most common here in France. I'd like to also point out the presence of the French Taco Kit in this line-up, which is the true imposter here. French Tacos are NOT tacos, and I will stand by that. While delicious, they are more akin to a tortilla panini than an actual taco...

Canadian Maple syrup and Chamallows (aka French marshmallows)

GAMES

Sure, you've heard of the classic game Trivial Pursuit, but have you ever seen a French Gastronomy edition?! This I just had to buy, not only to practice my French food vocabulary, but to strengthen my French food trivial knowledge! I am a former IFT College Bowl team member after all...

The French verison of Spot-It : Dobble.
I didn't know there were so many different versions!
